Reminiscent of the Sea/Horizon
I am fascinated by the calm movement of
the waves and the beautiful shades of colours that are reflected in the Arabian
sea. My forms are developed from a horizon line, a curve that I observe during
my holidays, which I aim to represent in my work.
I have used the techniques of kiln casting using clear lead crystal and cold working and have applied copper carbonate oxide and body stains for the colours to create this sculptural piece of series.
I am drawn to the subtle interplay between the polished smooth surfaces that acts as a window allowing the viewer to explore inside the glass contrasting with the textural quality of the outer surface that is achieved by using a fabric to give a shimmery effect representing how the light shimmers on moving water.
Series 2 is created by making a clay hemisphere form created from the same mould and then each piece is created individually in different plaster moulds, there for every time the results are different by creating variations in the ripple movement and colours, reminiscing the feeling of the sea, therefore no piece is the same and are unique bespoke glass sculptural series.
