About me
Where do I belong now? A question I have kept on
asking to myself from a young age. A question that has been a mystery to myself
and has kept me motivated in my ambitions to achieve something novel. Growing in a background where my family is
predominantly science oriented, specifically medicine has led many people to
question me that what has drawn me into arts. In my childhood, arts and crafts and
interior designing has always captured my attention.
My A-Levels in Psychology, Sociology alongside with Arts further shaped my career. I discovered how these aspects are inter-linked to each other, of how arts is not just an act of work, but also how it can create a sense of meaning to the viewer. Understanding human interaction with objects and how it affects the human behavior psychologically, emotionally and socially enhanced the answer to my curiosity.
In the passage to seek my answer, I underwent a two year Art foundation course in Cambridge. Obtaining experience and skills from different rotations in these years such as interior design, fine arts, photography, ceramics, glass and metals broadened my spectrum of skills. I realized to give a piece of art more value, photography and ambiance plays an exceptional role.
After visiting Dubai, UAE during one of my holidays, I came across Dale Chihuly’s large blown sculptural installment displayed at the Atlantis hotel. It was a mind-blowing and a magical experience that provided me a sense of peace. It really sparked me to question myself that how a material, especially glass that seems so brittle, can portray so many of other beautiful forms. This life experience brought me closer to glass and in fact, this was another point of life that reinforced my dedication and where I discovered myself more.
During that visit I also found my source of calmness, my source of inspiration, water. From the hustle and bustle of London, the calmness of the Arabian Sea showed me a different world, of how life can actually be peaceful.
Although my inspiration for glass was immense, I needed experience and skills in order to expand myself. I chose to further study for a BA Honours in Three Dimensional Design (Glass) from the University for the Creative Arts and specialize in this wonderful material. So, I repeat the question, where do I belong now? I belong in the realm of glass in an aim of becoming one of the renowned artists, and in an aim to be known as a symbol of peace and tranquility.
